Abbey of Fontdouce

Introduction

Built in the twelfth and thirteenth century, Fontdouce Abbey is nestled in the hollow of a valley, between vineyards and forests. The gardens reproduced from an engraving of 1787, and the canalized water falling in successive cascades before crossing the chapter house of the monastery, fit perfectly into this place. There reigns an atmosphere of tranquility and serenity conducive to daydreaming.
