Located in the Loire Valley, near Tours and Angers, the Gizeux castle was expanded in the Renaissance by the Bellay family, who built the main building in U and arranged the large reception rooms on the first floor.
The magnificent Galerie François 1er was entirely painted by Italian artists around 1585. The King stayed there twice.
History and famous characters
It was in the 18th century that the main building underwent major changes. The ground floor is transformed into small lounges where the parquet replaces the pavement and the wood paneling adorns the walls.
Beautiful inlay furniture and Louis XV chairs create an elegant furnishing, classified as a Historic Monument.
Surrounded by forests populated with game, the castle of Gizeux has always been a home of huntsmen. The hunting room, with its large fireplace and its imposing wooden table, is the favorite place to receive the crew after the huntings.
Still used until 1973, the old kitchen will surprise you with its beautiful collection of brass, polished each year by the inhabitants of the village.
