Introduction

The rocky cliff located behind the castle is equipped with caves which undoubtedly served as troglodyte habitat. A fortified village - or castrum - also developed on the narrow square located against the cliff, in front of the caves, and overhanging a deep ravine.

The castle, from the 12th-15th centuries, was built by the Lords from 1180. From these origins, it was occupied by seven successive families, and even served as Town Hall and School from 1816 to 1924.
