The castle today
The magnificent Domaine de la Fontaine Park is a unique example of an association of French and English styles.
Housed in the 17th century from plans by André Le Nôtre, the gardener of King Louis XIV, the French garden is composed of two star roundabouts facing each other, opening on eight avenues through the forest. oaks.
In the 18th century, part of the park was transformed into an English garden according to the taste of the century. Breaking with the geometry of the French garden, there are gently sloping lawns, massifs imitating nature as well as picturesque views of the surrounding mills and the cathedral of Orleans.
Among the species of the park are cedars, ginkgos, tulip trees, bamboos, magnolias and bald cypresses. The park is also composed of a French garden, islands and bridges and a romantic artificial cave, built in the 17th century when the little arm of Loiret was redrawn.
The Château and La Fontaine Park have been classified as historical monuments since 1935. The entire estate is included in the protection plan for the Loiret River (ZPPAUP).
