The Château de la Flocellière is located just 8 km from Puy du Fou (voted best world park in 2012 in Los Angeles, a real journey back in time). The castle is in the Vendée grove, quiet, a real family home. A beautiful swimming pool, heated in the summer, is reserved for the guests of the castle and the residents of the two gites of the castle. It is away from the rooms in lush greenery. A park of 15 hectares with ancient trees will give you the opportunity to discover a peaceful environment and architecture of 1000 years of history. You will also be able to taste some of the local cuisine of the housewife around a table d'hôte and discover the Loire wines.
The castle today
The earliest origins of the castle date back to the 11th century when it was intended to be an important fortress whose high Donjon and the ruins of the enclosure are still witnesses. Around the 17th century, the castle was transformed into a magnificent and elegant noble residence. Overlooking the Vendée countryside, it is located in the middle of a landscape of hills, woods, ponds, in a green softness and a peaceful calm. It is one of the rare castles of France inhabited without discontinuity since nearly 10 centuries of which one knows the history and the descendants since 1090.
Poets and great men have resided in this wonderful site whose origin of the name means "the flower of the sky". You will hear Bertrand Dugusclin's visit, Philipine's poems, Chatelaine de la Flocellière in the 16th century, as well as the famous love story between the beautiful Elizabeth Hamilton and the Marquis Jacques de Maillé in the time of Louis XIII.
