The castle today
The current building dates from the 17th century. It was built, on the structures of a former manor house of the thirteenth century, by the wealthy family Goddes de Varennes who acquired it in 1603. François Goddes de Varennes (1643 † 1701) completed in 1699 the enlargement of the castle that his father Charles-François Goddes of Varennes (1593 † 1680) had had made.
The property remained in the hands of this family Goddes de Varennes until the early nineteenth century, then changed his name while remaining in the fold family, until the twentieth century.
