DESCRIPTION OF THE RENT
Often compared to the Chateaux of the Loire Valley, the Château de Montardy is a true architectural exception among the other Périgord’s castles. Built in the 14th century, it has kept all its authenticity, both in its architecture and in its layout. The 18th century style decoration has been tastefully preserved and will allow you to sleep in vintage four-poster beds.
Located in one of the two wings, the space is spread over two floors.
On the ground floor: A very large living room of 110m² serving both as lounge and dining room, and a fully equipped kitchen allows travelers a perfect autonomy during their stay.

HISTORY
The Château de Montardy belongs to the LAU family of Allemans since 1427. This feudal castle was transformed over the centuries until the 16th century.
The castle was the favorite place of great men in history such as King Edward VII who used to spend holidays there and hunt. Peter Shaffer was also an iconic character who used to come to the castle. All his plays, including "Amadeus", were written at Château de Montardy.
Finally, Proust speaks of the Marquis du Lau d'Allemans and his family in several volumes of his famous book "A la recherche du temps perdu".
GARDENS
Located in Green Périgord, the castle overlooks a splendid valley over several kilometers. It is surrounded by a property of 300 hectares.
A vintage drawbridge separates the living room from the garden and brings on a wide terrace. A large outdoor table with chairs, a parasol and a barbecue are at your disposal. Further away, hidden in an intimate environment, you will find a secure pool with sun loungers to relax.
REGION
The Dordogne, former province of Périgord, benefits from a particularly temperate climate which makes it a pleasant region to live in all seasons and a privileged destination for successful holidays.
Between Brantôme, the Venice of Périgord, Périgueux, the capital which reveals its 2000 years of history and the Regional Natural Park Périgord Limousin, the region does not miss things to do. Visitors also enjoy gourmet tours around truffles, foie gras or apples.
ACTIVITIES
- The castle is equipped with a ping-pong table and a babyfoot, for the big competitors.
- Passionate about hunting and international champion of clay-pigeon shooting, the son of the owners proposes shooting lessons.
- Discover all the habits and customs of French aristocratic life during a French-style education given by the owner in person.
- Organize an atypical dinner in a hidden kitchen of the castle, dating from the 15th century (a local chef cooks local products in front of the customers).
- Go down the Dronne in a canoe to discover Périgord in another way. (6 km away, a canoe-kayak club organized circuits.) The Dronne winds the quarter north-west of Perigord over a changing mood. This river touches several castles including Saint-Front, Pommier, Vaugoubert, La Hierce, Ramefort, Bourdeilles and authentic villages like Brantôme or Bourdeilles).
- Discover the Dordogne on horseback (8 km away, an equestrian club offers horseback riding).
- Play golf between cliffs and rivers or between forests and vineyards. (The Golf of Périgueux and the Gulf of Angoulême, about 30 km offer a pleasant moment of relaxation on the greens).

Bed and toilet linens are provided as well as pool towels.
For short stays, it is possible to ask for breakfasts for 15 euros per person.
For rentals, the castle is available from 4pm to 12pm (possibility to arrange schedules on request
