History

A few kilometers from the city with a hundred steeples, this manor, one of the jewels of Cauchois architecture of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, opens its doors to the history of René d'Auber de Vertot. Born November 25, 1655, of Jesuit education, this man later known as the Abbot of Vertot, embraced the ecclesiastical state by true vocation.
In 1701, the Sun King named him Associate Academician of the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-Lettres. But the consecration will come in 1726 when he publishes the "History of the Knights of the Order of Malta" and will be named Histographer and Commander of the Order of Malta.
Recognized for his work, the Abbot of Vertot will end his life as personal secretary of the Duke of Orleans at the Palais Royal in Paris in 1735.

The castle today

Today the owners of the manor are committed to perpetuate the story of this man thanks to a superb labyrinth shaped Maltese cross that you will have the opportunity to discover during a stay or an event.
